CILIPS > Mission statement

The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland is the professional body, which supports the work, standards and professional development of 2,500 library and information workers in Scotland. CILIP is the UK body and CILIPS carries out the CILIP role in Scotland, having devolved powers under the 1995 Agreement.

This specifies that the Council "...will be responsible for all policy, financial and operational matters relating to the internal affairs ... and for those professional issues solely affecting the operation, development and promotion of library and information services in Scotland."

CILIPS aims to provide, in conjunction with CILIP and the Scottish Library and Information Council, an authoritative voice for members of the library and information profession in Scotland, recognised and approached as necessary by government, employers and the general public.

Biannual meetings between CILIP and CILIPS provide a forum for co-ordination on policy, strategy and finance. The Home Nations Forum extends these discussions into a wider arena, to allow the UK library and information sector to co-ordinate advocacy, policy and joint action.
