Christopher has now spent more than twenty five years working in public libraries, but started out as a Library Assistant at the University of London Library. After his first professional post at Hereford he moved to Northamptonshire to be a joint Libraries and Leisure Officer and later to integrate and manage a new Resources Section.
In 1993 he moved to Highland as Principal Librarian to manage the library support services for an area bigger than Wales or Belgium. Automation and the use of new technology were implemented to overcome the challenges of distance and remoteness. Still with The Highland Council he became Library and Information Services Co-ordinator before taking a wider role as Library Information and Archives Manager and now Lifelong Learning Manager.
His current remit includes the integrated School and Community Library Service, Information Strategy, Archives, Adult Learning and Adult Literacies and there is a need to concentrate on developing partnerships to deliver across relate but wide ranging areas.
Christopher serves on the SLIC e-content group and Management Committee as well as the BBC Libraries Partnership Regional Steering Group. He chairs the SLIC/Learning Connections Big Plus in Libraries reference group.
