Chris Pinder has spent more than 30 years working in libraries. His introduction to the profession was as a Branch Librarian with Blackpool District Libraries, a role he undertook for less than 2 years before he ventured further south to Bristol to take up the role of Assistant Librarian at the then Bristol Polytechnic. Chris held a number of positions in Bristol, including Systems Librarian, and was Head of Reader Services prior to his departure to Edinburgh in 1986 when he moved to Napier University as Depute Librarian. In 1999 Chris was appointed Director of Learning Information Services following the retirement of Rennie McElroy.
During his time at Napier, the institution has grown considerably and Chris believes this has been a learning experience equivalent to several further career moves as new challenges have presented themselves.
Chris has been active in the profession for many years and has served
as Convenor of UC&R (Scottish Section) and SALCTG as well as a brief
period on SLA Council. He has a strong interest in library co-operation
and has been Chair of ELISA for many years. He is also extremely interested
in the design of libraries as places to support all types of student learning
and research and is currently working with colleagues on plans for the
University’s new Sighthill campus.
