The CILIPS Centenary Conference 2008 'Inspire & transform: regenerating services' took place at the Peebles Hydro between 3 - 5 Jun. Branch and Group Day was held on Thur 5 Jun.

Centenary Medals

On the Centenary of the foundation of the Scottish Library Association (SLA) CILIPS, its successor body, has taken this unique occasion as an opportunity to mark the contribution of a number of individuals who have supported the work and development of library and information services in Scotland. The recipients were:

Gill Earle For services to health information
James Beaton For support for health sector librarians
Yvonne Manning For reading in schools and the development of the Falkirk Book Award
Elizabeth Carmichael For Local and family history services
Paul Burton For support for professional education
Wendy Axford For schools and continuing professional development
Ann Steele For support for the professional organisations
Peter Kemp For services to higher education and contribution to development of Digital Scotland
Charlie Rosie For services to further education libraries
David Kett For provision of services to socially isolated
Carole Gray For support for FE sector through work at a national level
Francesca McGrath For development of innovative information services

CILIPS Honorary Membership

Each year, CILIPS marks the significant contribution of a few individuals by presenting them with Honorary Membership of CILIPS. These are people who have worked hard for the organisation, sometimes in behind the scenes advocacy or putting in lengthy hours in a voluntary capacity to further the objectives of CILIPS and libraries.

Gordon Dunsire, Deputy Director, the Centre for Digital Library Research, for his work with the Cataloguing and Indexing Group, digital library research and support for SLIC and CILIPS e-services;

Christopher Phillips, President 2007 and Lifelong Learning Manager, The Highland Council, for his work to support adult literacy through the Big Plus in Libraries and RaW, lifelong learning and SLIC Board;

Sue Selwyn, Head of Culture and Lifelong Learning, Falkirk Council, for support for libraries and her work in developing cultural services and quality assurance frameworks;

Audrey Walker, Librarian, Turcan Connell for her service to law libraries, the CILIPS Membership Services Committee and the CILIPS East Branch; and as CILIP in Scotland’s representative to CILIP Council.

CILIPS Honorary Vice Presidency

Honorary Vice Presidency is the highest honorary office which CILIPS awards. On the occasion of the Centenary of the foundation of the Scottish Library Association, CILIPS is marking the outstanding contribution of two individuals, who have worked tirelessly to advocate for library and information services.

Robert Craig, OBE, BA, MA, Hon FCLIP
Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Scottish Football Museum and retired Director of the Scottish Library and Information Council and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals

Moira Methven, MCLIP
Head of Libraries, Information and Cultural Services, Dundee City Council, Trustee of the National Library of Scotland, member of CILIPS Council and SLIC Board
