
Margaret Forrest is the Learning Resources Manager at the Fife Campus of the University of Dundee.
Margaret has spent more than 23 years working in health care libraries in both the NHS and Higher Education sectors. Her first professional post was as Hospital Librarian of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she pioneered a reminiscence outreach programme, using materials from the Library for long-stay elderly patients.
In 1993, Margaret was appointed Library Services Manager of the Health Education Board for Scotland where she was responsible for the Health Promotion Library Scotland, receiving health information enquiries from the general public in Scotland. In 1998 and again in 2001, the Health Promotion Library was awarded the Charter Mark Award.
From 2005 to April 2008, Margaret was responsible for the School of Nursing and Midwifery Library at the Fife Campus of the University of Dundee, where she was involved in teaching information literacy skills to students and staff. In the wider University Library, Margaret also acted as convener of the Accessibility Team which recently developed an online module on disability awareness for library staff.
In April 2008 Margaret took up the post of Academic Liaison Librarian for the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh.
As a deaf librarian, Margaret has a vested interest in access issues for people with disabilities. From 2003 she has been Information Officer on the IFLA Libraries Serving Disadvantage Persons Section Standing Committee. Margaret is a member of CILIP's Equal Opportunities and Diversity Panel.
