Framework of Qualification
CPD and the CILIP Framework of Qualification
The toolkit can be used to support your professional development and
can be linked to the three stages of the CILIP Framework of Qualification
- Chartered Membership is the second level
of professional qualification awarded by CILIP and is considered the
gold standard for library and information professionals. In order to
achieve Chartership, members must complete a period of professional
practice and then submit an extensive portfolio which demonstrates professional
activity over that period.
- Revalidation is open to all Chartered
Members who wish to gain evidence and recognition of their commitment
to personal professional development. Candidates for Revalidation must
complete a minimum of 3 years work in the library and information sector
before submitting a portfolio of evidence documenting professional development.
- Fellowship is the highest level of professional
qualification awarded by CILIP and recognises a high level of personal
commitment and achievement. Fellowship is normally awarded only to members
who have been on the Register for at least six years, although exceptions
may be made in some cases. Candidates for Fellowship must produce a
portfolio of evidence and obtain letters of support from other Chartered
members or senior colleagues.
