Projects involving European partners
The following projects involving one or more European organizations have
a DDC component:
- CrissCross
- A project to create a multilingual, user-friendly, thesaurus-based research
vocabulary. Subject headings from the German Subject Headings Authority
File (SWD) are linked with DDC notations, which in turn are linked to the
English Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and French
Rameau subject headings.
- HILT: High-Level
Thesaurus
- A series of projects to research, develop and pilot solutions for problems
encountered when cross-searching different subject terminologies and classifications
in an information environment containing multiple catalogues.
Other projects of interest
- OCLC
DeweyBrowser
- A project to develop the use of the DDC summaries for information retrieval.
- Making
Visible the Invisible
- An installation in Seattle Public Library which displays animation visualizations
of check-out transactions, some based on the DDC numbers of non-fiction items.
- World
Digital Library
- A project to make significant primary materials from cultures around the
world freely available on the Internet in multilingual format. DDC will be
applied to all item-level records, and DDC summaries in seven languages (plus
the historical periods of India) will be included in the prototype.
