Nominations open for Dagger in the Library

Nominations for this year's Dagger in the Library Award, run by the Crime Writers Association, have now opened. Sponsored by Random House, the Dagger in the Library Award is unusual amongst literary prizes in that it is awarded to authors for the body of their work and not for an individual title.

It is intended to give a boost to lesser-known but interesting writers. Last year's winner was Colin Cotterill.

The judging panel, all practising librarians, look forward to receiving nominations from individual branch libraries and library-based reading groups, each of which may nominate up to three different authors.

Libraries that nominate a shortlisted author will be entered into a draw for two tickets to the Awards ceremony, to be held this year at the Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, whilst those nominating the eventual winner may win up to GBP.300 to be spent on books for their library.

Nomination forms, together with full details and a poster to display in your library, can be downloaded from the CWA website. Nominations close on Fri 9 April. Added: 20 Jan
