You may already be familiar with watching online video on the YouTube website, YouTube also allows users to post their own videos.
Free
Beyond the cost of recording and computer equipment there is no ongoing cost.
Simple
YouTube doesn't require that you have any specialised video knowledge.
Easily shared
Although the content is hosted by YouTube, every video had a piece of code allowing you to share it in your blog or website.
Hints and Tips
If you hold an author event, film it. You can then upload it to YouTube and this may reach users interested in that author who could not attend in person and who may not have considered browsing the library website.
If you have archival film and video (to which you hold the rights) upload it to YouTube; this can be another way of publicising your service and making content more visible to potential users.
YouTube can be used for showing "how to" videos, this can be useful in academic libraries where traditionally new intakes of students are often given tours of the service.
