This project was funded by the Scottish
Government to improve life skills and employment prospects through
the development of information literacy, customer care and basic ICT skills
in 2000 learners from colleges, schools, public libraries, community centres
and prisons. The project was completed in 2006.
There were three main skills development areas:
- Information Literacy Skills: using the SQA Unit DF9J 11,
which also provided automatic certification in the core skill of Problem
Solving
- Basic ICT skills: from moving a mouse to ECDL qualification
skills level (no qualification was actually required but courses such
as PC Passport and ECDL provide demonstration of competency)
- Customer Care Skills: this included elements such as dealing
with people; addressing customer needs; principles of customer care
and the information and benefits of customer care. Again, no official
qualification was required
Funding was provided and the feedback has led to changes in the SQA
Unit DF9J 11, which has been re-titled Information
Literacy Skills and will be re-launched in August 2007.
