Information Handling Skills > Introduction

SLIC, learndirect scotland and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow developed the Information Handling Skills course, with the Scottish Further Education Unit and eCom Scotland in 2004. The aim was to provide course material to support post 16 year olds to develop a range of skills in using and retrieving information, including planning, searching and evaluation. In addition to the learning bites, 5 themed scenarios were also created – Shopping, Travel, Research, Leisure and Employment. An SQA national unit qualification at Intermediate Level 2 was developed and validated (DF9J 11) for anyone interested in gaining a qualification. It was used within the 2000 learners project and feedback has led to a complete re-launch as Information Literacy Skills.
