Get Glasgow Reading Campaign was launched on 12 Oct 2006. The Evening Times have provided media coverage. A total of 14,095 packs have been distributed since the launch. There have been 13,036 issues of the recommended titles from ‘Great Stories To Read Aloud’ and the renewed interest in borrowing has resulted in a continuous increase in junior fiction issues, with the exception of December 06. The overall attendance at libraries dropped during December because of the holiday period and severe weather.
The number of new borrowers from launch date in Oct 06 to Jan 07 has
increased by 11.3% from same period in previous year. Number of new borrowers
for same period 05-06 was 11,776. New borrowers for October 06- Jan 07
was 13,101.
A pre and post evaluation questionnaire has been completed with targeted
groups re impact of project. Results from this and updated statistical
data, which will include specific number of new pre-5 borrowers will be
provided for report due 1st March 2007.
Scottish Government funding has been used as a major input to purchase the initial packs and contents, along with input to design of web site. Glasgow City Council view Get Glasgow Reading as an on going project and propose to sustain it by continuous purchase of entitlement packs and contents, and continuous update and improvement to web site. The Evening Times have pledged sustained media support.
