Debate over whether to use Council lines has delayed this project and SLIC officers have been in regular contact with the authority to ensure deadlines are met. The delay in the installation of Wi-Fi meant that the staff training and public course elements were carried out in existing training suites. This enabled the staff to be ready when the Wi-Fi was installed. Wi-Fi has been installed successfully in some parts of the service

WiFi Networks and broadband connections have been installed in Linlithgow, Carmondean, Whitburn and Bathgate Libraries. Permission was given to vire funding to use for the purchase of additional broadband and equipment as West Lothian agreed to meet equivalent costs of staff training from their 2007/8 budget.

The learning materials created by library staff will be held on GOAL (Get Online and Learn), West Lothian’s new online learning site supported by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). These materials will broaden understanding of Web 2.0 tools, such as Skype.
