- Books Bite Back: Aimed at late teens/early 20s attracted to libraries
through the learning centres.

- Targeting services at local authority employees - a selection of books
are taken to the Council Headquarters canteen every three weeks (in
line with issue period). If successful, the initiative may be developed to
include the mobile library service and a lunchtime book discussion group.

- East Ayrshire:
- To develop the pool of resources for the Reading Circle book discussion
group by encouraging members to choose books and promote them to other
readers. The multiple copies of the Reading Circle books will then be
used to create a 'Quick Pick' section in the library.

- Purchase a quantity of "Read Me – I’m a Good Book"
stickers and distribute an accompanying booklist.

- Fife:
- Targeted at existing ICT users, a scrolling Powerpoint presentation
will be used as a screensaver promoting reader development. Each slide
on the presentation would be shown for a several seconds. This project
has uses for the service at large as a marketing tool, but in the first
instance it would be used purely for reader development purposes.

- Highland:
- Display pack for the new 'Small Wonder' promotion from Opening the
Book, to attract parents of young children, who often come in to the
library with their kids for story time but don't often borrow a book
for themselves.
Adult Basic Education: providing resources for learners, training for
staff and ABE tutors. The collection will be used by newly confident readers
attracted by the short length of these titles.

- Stirling
- A project has been running for the past three months taking a selection
of contemporary fiction paperbacks to the Stirling Council headquarters
canteen every Thursday lunchtime, in order to promote the library and
reading to busy council employees. The three month pilot project has proved
successful with around forty new members and several weekly issues. Hope
to continue past the pilot project period.
Comments from the council staff have all been positive, with many
stating that they were too busy to visit the library and have started
reading fiction again after years of reading work related reports and
books.
Starting up a library based reading group at Bannockburn Library, Stirling.
Open to all, this group will meet on a Tuesday evening once a month to
discuss books and reading.

- West Dunbartonshire:
- To acquire readers' notice boards and put them in the most appropriate
of libraries. Photocopy relevant articles from the likes of Bookseller,
Books in the Media etc, convey Reading Group information, and make sure
that fortnightly books column in the local newspaper reaches a wider audience!
