School Libraries> Introduction

This area of SLAINTE aims to provide support to information professionals working in schools. Resources are spread across 7 key areas:

A Curriculum for Excellence
Implementation of A Curriculum for Excellence is set to commence in August 2008. Find out more about the new curriculum and how it will affect the LRC in this section.
ICT in the LRC
The implementation of Glow, the Scottish education intranet due to begin roll-out in August 2007, will affect all aspects of school life. Find out how this could impact on the LRC and how to keep your skills up-to-date with the Diploma in Applications of ICT in Libraries.
Information literacy
This comprehensive toolkit was produced by a CILIPS working group composed of information professionals directly involved with developing information literacy. The framework can be used to support the implementation of new courses or to develop existing learning programmes. The Information Literacy Skills National Qualification (formerly Information Handling Skills) is an interactive course which can be implemented in schools to support the delivery of information literacy programmes to the post-16 age group.
Libraries Supporting Learners - Self evaluation framework
The How Good is Our School: Libraries Supporting Learners evaluation framework has been in place since 2005. Find the latest version of the toolkit and supporting documentation in this section.
Preparing for Inspection
The HMIe proforma for the inspection of LRC's has undergone recent changes. Find the most up-to-date version in this section, together with tips for completion.
Single Status
Read our guide to the single status process in this section.
SLRC Quantitive Indicators
Each year the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) asks all school librarians to undertake a quantitive measurement of services. The survey is conducted during a sample week in November and responses help to build a nationwide perspective of information services in schools. Find out more about the overall process in this section.
