School Libraries> Quantitive Indicators

Following the publication of quality indicators for evaluating school library provision, (Taking a closer look at the school library resource centre, 1999), a SLIC working group identified a range of quantitative performance indicators, appropriate for school library resource centres, to augment and complement these. Schools across Scotland are invited to gather specified quantitative data, which is then used to provide a national picture of quantitative information about school library resource centres.

National benchmark information has been gathered for:

  • Expenditure
  • Resource provision
  • Transactions
  • Levels of library use

This information about individual schools is not published but the report of the 2007collection containing the national benchmarks will be circulated to Heads of School Library Services shortly. The guidance for the 2008 collection is now available, together with the spreadsheets for compiling returns: School Return, Authority Collation and SLIC Return.
